My introduction to Dervishes was the movie 'Jodha Akbar' in the song 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja'. The last sequence of the ecstatic dancing just captivated me and made an indelible mark in my memory. I never knew then what they were called or what do they actually do. Later I got hooked to all Mughal history books and went deeper and deeper into the concept. While I still don't claim to know Dervishes any better, but their mere sight creates some sort of soothing and calming effect. A simple life devoid of any temptations. Then I got introduced to the book 'Forty rules of Love' where I just fell in love with Rumi and Shams. Ever since I wanted to sketch Dervishes in their wild whirling ritual. I hope to see them in real someday and capture the dance with my own eyes.
