As a kid growing up, I always came across homes which had fish aquariums and I always wondered why didn't my family have one. I tried convincing my parents a lot on having one but failed miserably. So I kept visiting homes of others just to watch the fish glide seamlessly through water as though they were flying. One such species that caught my fancy was the Siamese fighting fish (also known as Betta fish). They always displayed elegance and flair and almost owned the aquarium by their presence. This was one such challenge for me to do justice to their beauty and elegance while I tried to bring them alive on canvas. In this particular piece I wanted to capture the fish 'in a movement' and highlight the light and shadow dancing around them. Hence to bring these out, I picked two Siamese fish instead of one. Being alone, these fish can display frustration and depression, hence I decided to give them companionship even on my canvas.
