SAKET ARBHI
"I love to create, art is my joy, my passion, my escape and my therapy"
SAKET ARBHI (b. 1982) IS A SELF-TAUGHT INDIAN CONTEMPORARY ARTIST WHO CREATES LARGE-SCALE HYPERREALIST ART ON PAPER USING COLOR PENCILS, GRAPHITE AND CHARCOAL.
As a child, everything eluded Saket except art. However, life brought surprises, leading him to a career in marketing. Despite his professional journey, his creative itch remained unfulfilled. Three years ago, during the pandemic, at the age of 38, he decided to pick up the pencil again and resurrect his dream of becoming an artist. Entirely self-taught, his journey into art has been one of discovery and learning. He creates handmade hyper-realistic artworks from color pencils, graphite, and charcoal. This obsession has evolved into a full-fledged professional art career, boasting 50+ large-scale artworks, and counting. He is obsessed with the precision and hyper-detailing that has become the signature of his art.
"If you love something, you will find the time for it."
He continues to push the boundaries of pencil art through both color and black-and-white mediums, focusing on hyper-detailing. Each piece is a labor of love and patience. His primary subject is the rich wildlife of our planet, but he occasionally explores other themes such as abstract, portraits, and landscapes. Every creation features a central element that captivates the viewer's focus, creating an illusion of grandeur that elevates the overall artwork.
Saket's work has found appreciation both in India and beyond, and he expresses gratitude for the new connections forged through his art. Some of the reactions that he has got at the India Art Festival and Mumbai Art festival are testimonial to his upcoming talent and photographic realism –
“We thought this was a photography booth, but these are sketches, and it’s mind-blowing”.
“Your color pencils work is beyond incredible. We thought it was acrylic paints, but now we are stunned knowing it’s pencils”.
“The detailing in the eyes is incredible. The glassy effect. So real and life-like”.
"I appreciate the unpredictable nature of art itself. As the canvas gets bigger, so does the compulsive need for detail and hyper-realism." - Saket
He has already transitioned into creating his own concepts. ‘Garden of the Blessed’ is one such art which is the artist’s interpretation of a ‘Blessed World’ depicted by a whirling Dervish. The intricately detailed garden emanating from the Dervish represents the journey of the inner soul to love and peace, ready to blossom.
Art, for Saket, is therapy, and he gracefully balances his roles as an artist and a corporate professional. According to him, Art helps him escape to an imaginary and creative world. It’s a constant learning process and he is always exploring new genres and mediums. He uploads all his art on his website as well as on his Instagram page @saketarbhi where he showcases not just the art but also the process of making the art.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Saket is a marketing professional with over 19 years of experience, currently working in a global media and entertainment company.
